It is not so easy to become an IPS officer, for this you have to pass many exams, physical tests, training, and many more. Tests are done only after clearing all these exams and then you are called an IPS officer.
IPS Exam Eligibility
- To become an IPS, your age should be between 21 to 30. but for SC / ST candidates it is between 21 to 35.
- You should have a Bachelor degree in any field
- Only India, Nepal and Bhutan citizens are able to sit in this exam
Physical Qualification
- Male: Male height should be at least 165cm, this is for general candidate. For SC / ST category then for this, you need at least 160cm height. Chest girth should be 84cm.
- Female: The height for a woman should be at least 150cm for the general candidate and the height should be 145cm for women in SC / ST category. Chest girth should be 79cm for women.
- Eyesight: For the better eye the vision should be 6/6 or 6/9 and the weak eye vision should be 6/12 or 6/9.
So if you have all these qualifications and physical qualifications, then only you can sit in this exam.
How to Become an IPS Officer in India
1. Pass 12th Standard
To become an IPS officer, first of all, you have to pass the 12th standard examination from any stream, whether it is science, commerce or arts subject.
2. Complete Graduation
As soon as you pass 12th, after that, complete your graduation/degree in whatever subject you have interest in, because it is very important to be graduate to become an IPS Officer, only then you can sit in the IPS exam.
3. Now Apply For UPSC Exam
As soon as your graduation is complete, after this, you will have to apply for the UPSC exam or you can apply for this exam in the final year too, so if you have to give an exam like IAS, IPS, IRS. So for everyone, you have to give UPSC exam because UPSC conducts these exams and this is the most difficult exam.
As soon as you apply for the UPSC exam, after this you have to clear 3 exams, the first one is the Preliminary Examination, the second is the Main Exam and interview. After clearing all these rounds, you are sent for training.
4. Clear The Preliminary Exam
After applying in the UPSC exam, now you have to clear the first exam, which is called The Preliminary Exam, which consists of two papers, then next. You have to clear this exam to go to the 2nd round, which is very important
5. Now Clear The Main Exam
As soon as you clear the first exam after that, now you have to clear the main exam, which is very hard, in this you will have to give a total of 9 papers, in which you have to give an interview along with the written (Written Exam). A lot of people are not able to clear this exam, if you want to become an IPS officer, then you have to bring good and top marks in the exam.
6. Clear The Interview Round
As soon as both of your rounds are cleared, after that you are now called for a personal interview which is about 45 minutes, then you have to clear the interview. There are many interview panels here which will ask tricky questions, then you have to be ready for this, only then you can become a capable IPS officer.
7. Now Complete The Training
You have to complete this training to become an IPS officer, then for this, you are sent for training in cities like Mussoorie and Hyderabad, as soon as your training is completed you will get an IPS officer post.
